Who we help / Trades
HR Support Built for the Trades.
Running a plumbing, HVAC, or electrical company in New Hampshire means managing more than jobs and customers. From hiring technicians and apprentices to payroll, onboarding, and employee relations, Innovative HR Partners helps contractors build and manage the HR systems that keep their teams moving.
You run the jobs. We help manage the people side.
In a growing contracting company, HR often lands on the owner, general manager, or office administrator—on top of crews, scheduling, customers, and growth. Ongoing outsourced HR takes recurring administration off your plate and builds more consistent processes.
Sound familiar?
The HR work that piles up between jobs.
- Hiring technicians, installers, and apprentices while crews are already stretched.
- Answering payroll and timekeeping questions between estimates, dispatch, and customer calls.
- Onboarding new field employees quickly without losing track of paperwork.
- Handling attendance, conduct, and performance issues without a consistent process.
- Keeping handbooks, policies, and personnel records current as the company grows.
Rather than occasional advice, we provide practical, personal, ongoing HR operations support. Learn more about our general outsourced HR offering.
Services for contractors
HR services tailored to the trades.
Your monthly partnership is built around the work you need help managing. The agreed scope can include:
Support role descriptions, job postings, candidate communication, interview coordination, and the handoff from accepted offer to first day. Hiring decisions stay with you, and we do not guarantee recruiting outcomes.
Administer and process payroll through your existing payroll system, with clear responsibilities for timekeeping, employee changes, review, and approval.
Establish checklists and documentation for new hires and departures, with clear handoffs to payroll, benefits, supervisors, and the people who issue vehicles, tools, or system access.
Help owners and supervisors address attendance, conduct, and performance concerns, document conversations, and approach disciplinary situations consistently.
Establish and maintain practical policies, organized personnel records, and documentation processes that reflect how your crews and office actually work. Legal questions belong with qualified employment counsel.
Support enrollment workflows and coordination between your employees, broker, carrier, and payroll provider.
Give foremen, service managers, and supervisors a consistent point of contact for people questions, expectations, and difficult conversations.
Services, responsibilities, and working arrangements are agreed before the engagement begins. A monthly partnership does not automatically include every service listed.
Field experience
HR support that understands the field.
Our founder brings firsthand experience working within plumbing, HVAC, and electrical contracting businesses. We understand the challenges of managing field technicians, installers, apprentices, and office teams—and how important it is to have HR processes that work in the real world.
- Multiple job sites
- Technicians rarely sit near the office. Communication, documentation, and policy acknowledgments need to reach people in trucks and on site.
- Field and office coordination
- Dispatchers, office staff, and crews depend on each other. Clear roles and handoffs reduce the friction between them.
- Apprentices
- Apprentices need structured onboarding, documentation, and supervisors who know what is expected of them.
- Timekeeping and payroll
- Travel, job codes, and late-entered hours make payroll workflows harder. Agreed inputs and approvals keep the process predictable.
- Seasonal staffing
- Busy heating and cooling seasons change headcount and hours. Hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes should flex with them.
- Service and install teams
- Service and installation work often run on different schedules and expectations. HR processes should account for both.
- Supervisor communication
- Many supervisors were promoted for their technical skill. Practical guidance helps them handle attendance and performance conversations well.
Who we help
Built for growing contractors.
We typically work with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical companies with 10–75 employees, although fit depends on the business and its needs—not a strict employee count. Outsourced HR brings structure and ongoing support without immediately hiring a full-time HR employee.
Your leadership team retains employer responsibilities and final employment decisions. Legal, tax, safety, and licensed benefits advice remain with appropriately qualified professionals.
How we work
Assess. Establish. Manage.
- Assess
- Start with an initial review of the HR practices in scope: personnel files, payroll and timekeeping workflows, onboarding, policies, and current employee-relations needs. Identify what needs attention first.
- Establish
- Put the agreed systems in place. Clarify implementation priorities, workflows, payroll-system access, approval roles, and the handoffs between your office, supervisors, and existing providers.
- Manage
- Provide ongoing monthly HR administration and guidance. Maintain and improve processes as crews grow, seasons change, and the business develops.
Common questions
Practical answers for contractors.
Is my contracting company the right size?
Our support is generally suited to growing companies with 10–75 employees, but that is not a strict limit. The right fit depends on your business and the HR work you need help managing. A conversation is the easiest way to find out.
Can you work with the payroll system we already use?
Yes. We administer and process payroll through client payroll systems. Before work begins, we agree on who supplies timekeeping information, reviews changes, and approves payroll. Tax-filing responsibilities must be confirmed with your payroll provider and qualified tax professionals; we do not promise tax-filing services or guaranteed compliance.
What is the difference between the initial work and the monthly partnership?
The initial phase assesses your current practices and establishes the agreed workflows, access, and responsibilities. The monthly partnership is the ongoing HR administration and guidance that follows.
Can we start with a single project instead?
Yes. Focused projects, audits, and consulting support are available when you need help with a defined issue. Our primary focus is ongoing HR support, but a project does not assume a continuing engagement.
How is pricing determined?
Pricing depends on the services included, the size and complexity of your team, and the support you need. We propose a defined scope, responsibilities, and pricing before any engagement begins.
Can you work alongside our office manager and supervisors?
Yes. We agree on the responsibilities your office manager and supervisors retain and where outsourced HR can provide administration and guidance. Clear handoffs help connect field employees, the office, and your existing providers. Your business retains employer responsibilities and final employment decisions.
Tell us about your company, your crews, and the HR work taking up your time. We'll discuss your needs, answer your questions, and explore whether ongoing support is a good fit.
If it is, the next step is a proposed scope that spells out priorities, responsibilities, working arrangements, and pricing—agreed before any engagement begins. Individual projects, audits, and consulting remain available for defined needs.
